Desk on Frame, Chippendale, The Stocking Group, Connecticut

The Stocking Group which includes four closely related desks on frames was named for Luther Stocking, an early owner. All five display outstanding related design features; fitted interiors with hidden compartments behind prospect section, and similar construction.

Item Date: 1760-1795

Measurement: Height: 44.5"; writing height: 32"; width: 40"; depth: 18.75"

Material: Cherry, secondary woods: white and yellow pine; two drawer backs are poplar.

Item Condition: Very good, commensurate with age and use. One trivial minor lip repair. Hardware is replaced.
