Suter was born in Switzerland in 1796 and came to Selma, Alabama in 1850 where he established his business selling guns made in Philadelphia; his earlier guns are marked as herein described. He died in Selma, 1873. [Suter was agent to Wurfflein 1850-1866] The lock is marked A. WURFFLEIN/PHILA, Andrew Wurfflein was the first of the family dynasty of gunmakers to be listed about 1845. Wurfflein, Philadelphia percussion derringer marked on the lock plate; "C. SUTER / SELMA ALA" appears on the barrel. The gun has plain German silver mountings except for the trigger guard with pineapple finial which is engraved; two silver barrel bands.

Measurement: .45 caliber; 3.5" barrel, 7.25" overall

Condition: Walnut stock with well-worn checkering; action is tight and smooth.
