Nantucket Lightship Basket, Round, Swing Handle

This example, a shallow round basket with carved swing handle pinned to hand cut brass ears, turned base with molded base edge, the interior with incised concentric rings. The staves are made of oak and woven with cane; half round hoops of oak are single wrapped with cane.

Date: Late 19th to early 20th century

Measurement: Height: 3.5"; height at handle: 7.5"; diameter: 7.5"

Material: Turned wood base, oak staves, and rim, woven with cane.

Condition: Good, shrinkage to handle
