When David and Linda Arman wrote the book Anglo-American Ceramics in 1998, they wrote, "This seal is rather unusual in its design. However, the batter pitcher it is on is a heavy earthenware piece, which is the only example recorded with this type of transfer on this unusual form." [page 162, S. 10]
