Ware (b. 1803, d. 1826/27), the young portrait painter displays his oeuvre…large fully open eyes, prominent ear, and eyebrows, heavy shading along the nose; a deep depression in the mid-line of upper lip. The artist’s portraits [perhaps 40 works were produced during a 4 to 5-year period] are painted against a dark background. Most of his subjects were from Pomfret, Woodstock, Barnard or Hartland, Vermont.
