So much about this picture speaks to Chamber’s oeuvre besides the palate and formula… the tree with snaky roots at left margin, the pair of seated men contemplating the view before them. A road meanders past a church/chapel though a patchwork of fields showing distant villages and strolling people before a mountainous range. Interestingly, Chambers did not sign, or date his landscape paintings.
