Purported Maker: Captain Henry Stewart [cabinetmaker] of Farmington, Maine. Our research produced evidence that this piece was recently accompanied by the maker’s daybook and a detailed provenance; we are actively pursuing the documents. (We know that one of his ledgers exists and is in the collection of the Farmington, Maine Historical Society. (There is much information regarding Stewart, his activities and family on the web.)

About Captain Henry Stewart: Capt. Henry Stewart, born April 12, 1779. Came to Farmington from Martha’s Vineyard, with his father Hugh at age 15. Stewart was a cabinetmaker and house-joiner, and painter. Helped found first Unitarian church in Farmington. Married Sophia Church and later to Catherine Stanley.    Extract from Center Meeting House Cemetery in Farmington, Franklin, Maine: Capt. Henry Stewart died 26 Nov 1848. He married Sophia Church on 12 Apr 1800 in Farmington. He married Catherine Stanley on 5 Sep 1814 in place unknown.
