Slip Decorated Redware Plate from Southeastern Pennsylvania

Possibly Berks County

Please click on images to expand.

This early to mid-nineteenth century slip decorated red earthenware plate with a coggled edge was made in Southeastern Pennsylvania, perhaps Berks County. This style of production was included as part of many Pennsylvania-German potters working in the 1800s, this is a particularly nice example, whereas the potter created an appealing and elaborate dotted, curved and crossing decoration using three lines of slip.

The manner of the slip is comparable to wares made by the Dry family in Berks County, Pennsylvania.
