Rushnip with Cresset Base, Probably Ireland or the West Coast of Scotland or England

Hand-forged wrought iron rushnip consisting of riveted jaws mounted on a twisted stem with a long-angled dousing cone. The upright is mounted in a cresset base formed from a circular foot ring with four arched supports. Construction includes fire-welded joints, including the swing arm forged to a rectangular sectioned bar. The form is consistent with examples produced in Ireland and the west coast regions of Scotland and England during the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries.

Measurement: 10.25” x 4.5”

Material: Hand-forged wrought iron.

Item Condition: Excellent condition exhibiting an untouched surface and authentic wear consistent with prolonged use. No damage or repairs.
