Rare Salt Glazed Stoneware Jug Featuring Queen Anne’s Cipher, Westerwald

Highly impressive large Westerwald handled jug made for the English market. The jug features applied flowerheads brushed in manganese, also…seed pods and sgraffito stems. The jug is brushed with beautiful deep cobalt blue, the reeded neck in manganese.  On the front is a large, applied roundel showing conjoined initials ‘A R’ (for ‘Anne Regina’ or Queen Anne of GB circa 1702-1714) with detailed crown above within a laurel leaf border. This lovely ovoid jug is exceptionally well potted, robust, and features crisp ornament.
