Created by French Jacquard weaver François Carquillat (1802–1884) based on a design by artist Allardet. This woven textile portrait depicts George Washington surrounded by patriotic American imagery, crafted for the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia.
Examples are held in the Collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC; National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (Bayou Bend Collection).
