Rare British Four Barrel Duckfoot Flintlock Pistol by Barbar of London

Cannon-belled screw barrels with lightly oxidized bores. The metal surfaces of this large duckfoot pistol have been cleaned to a silvery gunmetal patina showing remnants of old moderate pitting scattered throughout. The sides of the frame are embellished with tasteful foliate scrollwork that has softened somewhat but is intact. The right side is marked ”LONDON” and the left ”BARBAR”, the breeches and barrels are numbered 1 through 4 and the undersides of each breech are appropriately stamped with ”(Crown) / V” proofs. The sides of the frame, breech flats and breech ends of the barrels are all embellished with simple light borders. There are three flash holes in the pan; the two flanking the central hole may have been added sometime later as they do not exhibit the same amount of erosion. The one-piece walnut grip remains in very good plus condition showing some scattered light dings and handling marks and features extensive silver wire inlay that is almost entirely intact with just a few strands of wire starting to come up (trivial). The action functions crisply and the triggerguard acts as a sliding safety.
