Pair of Flintlock Holster Pistols, Outstanding Carving, Condition & Furniture

A good pair with sighted barrels [black] ornamented with overlayed engraved and repousse strapwork. The walnut stock is carved at breech tang; carving surrounds the rear entry pipe… continuing the length of ramrod channel to muzzle. Brass furniture including a finely cut/pierced scrolled/foliate sideplate featuring a man on horseback and sea serpents. The triggerguard bow displays a Greenman-like mask, the long tangs are engraved as is the rear entry pipe. The eared butt cap displays a grotesque mask. The thumbpiece is pierced. The cock, frizzen, and frizzen spring are chisel cut/engraved.

One lockplate is signed “I B”, both lockplates display tiny marks. There are several maker possibilities published within Heer Der Neue Stockel, Journal Verlag. We offer the pair as “unknown maker”.
