A classic example of a 19th century American cricket (the traditional New England term for these small, low footstools).
Rectangular top with chamfered edges raised on slightly-flaring turned feet with incised rings need lower leg terminus.
Decoration: The top features an outstanding bold, freehand-painted yellow emblem on a broadly brushed black on red ground – looks like a distinctive multi-pointed starburst or stylized flower with radiating leaf-like petals. The top is framed by a vibrant red outer border with a thin yellow conforming pinstripe inside.
Item Date: Circa 1840
Measurement: 6" x 12" x 7.75"
Item Condition: Overall, very good original condition. There are two chips to outside edges of top as depicted [we can have these trivial losses restored]. Upholstery tack piercings are evidence of at least two campaigns of upholstering which protected the paint.
Price: $425
