Oval tinned sheet-iron tinder box retaining its forged steel striker together with flint, char cloth, tow, and small wood kindling. Complete examples preserving their original fire-making materials are increasingly uncommon, providing a rare glimpse into the practical equipment carried and used before the widespread adoption of friction matches.

Item Date: Early to Mid 19th Century

Measurement: 4.25” x 2.75” x .75”

Material: Tinned sheet iron with forged steel striker; retaining flint, charred cloth, tow, and wood kindling.

Item Condition: Very good condition with an untouched surface and expected wear from use. Retains its original lid and a remarkable survival of its period fire-making contents.
