An honest and colorful example of great presence exhibits lovely proportions. As for the old yellow paint: This bold chrome yellow (or similar mustard/yellow ochre) over pine became quite popular in rural New England and Mid-Atlantic areas in the second half of the 18th century, often to brighten homes. The paint is vintage…quite old – we suggest first quarter [or slightly after] the 20th century.
The slightly projecting/overhanging robustly molded lid remains hung original snipe hinges. The deep well/chest is over a single long drawer featuring overhanging thumbmolded drawer front… the whole raised on bootjack cutout base.
