New England Flintlock Militia Musket & Bayonet, D. Dana, Canton, Massachusetts

The civilian style stock has no provision for a sling and has brass furniture, including the trigger guard, nose cap, sideplate and buttplate. A very nice War of 1812 musket; variant of armory pattern muskets with an 1808 U.S. contract style flat lock stamped only “D. DANA” forward of cock… below the flash pan [Dana is known to have made his own locks]. The musket featuring a tapered round smoothbore barrel with bayonet lug fitted on top near muzzle is complete with original steel ramrod and bayonet.

The barrel is marked “P” over “V” on left side near breech. Flanking the breech tang are two impressed names, one each side: “T. BACON”… the sideplate displays the same mark. Impressed in the stock above and below the sideplate are initials “EH”.
