
Bundy, born Hardwick, Vermont (1814-1883) was a self-taught itinerant painter who like many started as coach-painter in Lowell, Massachusetts, and was most active in Vermont and New Hampshire.
This wonderful portrait of a young blue-eyed boy holding a book and wearing a printed vest and brown coat depicts childhood innocence and is signed and dated on the verso.
Exhibition History: The portrait was exhibited at The Mead Gallery at Amherst College, Amherst, Massachusetts, 1974; and is published within the catalog.

Item Condition: Excellent condition – displays beautifully. Extremely minor in-painting of “specks” mentioned for accuracy; the painting was long ago wax lined and mounted on a strainer… installed within original frame.
