Four Drawer Oxbow Chest, Chapin School, Attributed to George Belden

This reverse serpentine chest of drawers exhibits the characteristic features of the Eliphalet Chapin school. The chest features the reverse serpentine shape that was fashionable in the Connecticut River Valley at the time, four graduated drawers with blocked ends, bold ogee-bracket feet and a quadrant base. The chest displays good color and patina.

The Connecticut Historical Society owns a closely related chest signed by the maker.
