Labeled as clay from “The Mine at Petersburg, VA, C.C.W. 6/1866” (Civil War), referencing the Battle of the Crater (July 30, 1864), where Union forces detonated a mine under Confederate lines. Likely a postwar souvenir honoring Lincoln post-assassination (April 1865).
