An outstanding miniature black-throated blue warbler by noted New Hampshire bird carver Jess Blackstone, perched upon its original carved wooden base. The sensitively modeled bird displays Blackstone’s characteristic attention to species: deeply incised feathering, carefully articulated wings and tail, applied legs and feet, and wonderfully observed blue-gray, black, white and brown painted plumage. The underside retains Blackstone’s hand-inscribed identification, “Black Throated Blue Warbler,” together with the number 26 and his distinctive cipher. An especially appealing example combining the immediacy of American folk carving with remarkably accurate ornithological observation.
