Bear Jug, Figure of a Bear Hugging Napolean Depicted as a Monkey, Bear Baiting

A fine and rare pottery bear jug symbolically and satirically commemorating Napoleons defeat by the Russians. News of Napoleons retreat from Moscow with the tattered remnants of his army was welcome news in the United Kingdom.

The jug was/is for the consumption of alcoholic beverages with the spout poring forth through Napoleons mouth into the head of the bear used as a cup. Political correctness was not the fashion of the day in England during this period.
