In the circle of the Coutant group made between New Rochelle and Manhattan

Yoke shaped crest rail and a plain rectangular shoe facilitating five grooved banisters flanked by turned stiles. The shaped arms featuring scroll shaped handholds are supported by turned posts. The lower front posts feature compressed ball turnings and continue to turnip feet [tapered rear feet]. The legs are joined by a very robust turned front stretcher and plain front and side stretchers. The chair has a very good, very old surface, dark brown with yellow detailing over red [dry patina].
