Antique Candle Lantern, New England

Antique Candle Lantern, New England

Two-tier pierced chimney; carrying ring, and crimped heat reflector. The tapered and pierced top section surmounts the domed shoulder of lower pierced chimney section above the square glazed case…each light joining columnar vertical corners continuing to cast pewter ball feet… the tops with conforming finials; single candle socket with ejection slit is tabbed. Three lights retaining original glass; the sheet iron door having wire reinforced rolled edges is hung from fabulous, tapered sheet iron hinges conforming to tubular corner posts. The door is strengthened and ornamented with an embossed rectangle, [triple molded banding] centering an “X” that fills the center. The base is pierced for drafting.

This exceptional example was at onetime electrified as evidenced by a 3/8” piercing conforming to top piercing; the piercings facilitated wire (does not distract). Fine construction, exceptional example.
