Cartridge waist box – interior fitted with original pine block drilled to hold 17 paper cartridges; This American belly box [cartridge box] features a block similar in shape to that of a British 18-hole examples; British examples were/are made of elm. It is an inexpensively constructed militia type box, with tacked leather sides and flaps. Hard to date, as it could run anywhere from RW to 1840s. The flap appears to retain its original closure tab [strap] which is a tad short due to wear. There is a name scratched into the leather on the bowed front as depicted.
