The artist’s small body of extant work is primarily fruits or flowers and occasionally pastoral scenes. It appears that his compositions are influenced by Dutch still life [old master] traditions evident in the dark, moody background and the meticulous detail of the fruit’s texture. His paintings frequently feature bountiful arrangements of fruit—grapes, peaches, and halved melons are common subjects. He often included realistic details like the translucent skin of the grapes and small “trompe l’oeil” water droplets. The frame is American and likely original.
