Carved by a master, precisely laid out, meticulously executed. A meaningful connection to a Civil War veteran’s wartime experience.

Starting at the top, carved in-the-round is: IN GOD WE TRUST surmounting a row of corps badges – beneath which is carved LINCOLN; centering a large five-pointed star within a frame is displayed – UNION / LIBERTY within frames. Next is “USA” with an expanding recessed field accommodating a large clover [likely a corps badge].

Gettysburg / JULY 1. 2. 3. /1863 is carved in a conforming incised downward spiral as are the following names and ornamentation: GEN MEADE / [CORPS BADGE], then SLOCUM / HUNT [corps badge] / SYKES [corps badge] / Reynolds / HANCOCK…then an ionic key followed by “WOOD OF CULPS HILL / GEN LEE.
