This circa 1840 composition, a slip decorated redware bird plate adorned with a long tailed bird perched on a branch is likely from Mattawan, New Jersey. However, attribution for these types of plates is difficult, although such pieces are frequently attributed to William A. Lowe, who is reputed to have made them while working for Mattawan potteries like Dunn, Dunlap & Co. or Van Schoick and Dunn, circa 1830-1850.
