Hand-wrought candle counterweighted rushnip mounted on a tripod base with hocked penny feet. The rolled candle socket, cylindrical stem, notched jaws and finely forged construction are characteristic of Welsh domestic lighting of the nineteenth century. An English coin has been repurposed as the center washer where the stem joins the tripod base, providing both a functional bearing surface and an unusual period detail.
