High-style Boston tea tables and high chests frequently feature similar aprons, but this painted maple version feels like a country cousin—likely made in eastern Massachusetts (possibly north of Boston or in a rural shop influenced by urban patterns). It’s less refined than downtown Boston formal work but shares that distinctive skirt treatment. A charming example displaying great form and surface.
The rectangular [pegged single board] top with applied molded tray edge, displays a nice patina. The bold arcaded skirt is outstanding…a standout. This arched, undulating profile is a hallmark of certain Massachusetts traditions (especially Boston-area) interpretations. The skirt joins block and turned legs resting on well-formed pad feet.
