19th Century Slip Decorated Redware Plate Made in Pennsylvania

Although the potters are not identified, this is a style of nineteenth century slip decorated redware bird plate known from Pennsylvania today, probably in the eastern part of the state. There are a group of bird plates known that are decorated in this style with this being a particularly good example adorned with a perched bird, a pronounced tail and creatively applied feathers with lines of slip. The proportion of the bird in comparison to the size of the plate is also appealing.
