Created by Mary Bunting (b. August 18, 1800 – d. May 16, 1890), Lower Makefield, Bucks County, PA), this Quaker sampler features four central confronting birds, floral motifs including a carnation in a pot, an eight-sided medallion with a swan, and a squirrel framed in floral trim. The sampler displays characteristic Quaker aesthetic simplicity and symbolism.
