Satsuma Urn of great proportion
Circa 1897



One of the most elaborately decorated brewery advertising pieces; as depicted, enormous Satsuma urn complete with high domed lid featuring Foo dog resting on bulbous body with Foo dog handles and fine decoration, including samurai warriors. This imposing piece stands at 31-inches and remains in excellent condition with professional restoration to lid, all else fine.

PHILADELPHIA TEAPOT

Attributed to Thomas Haig
Circa 1840-1850



Rare yellow ware molded teapot with flint enameled glaze attributed to Thomas Haig, Philadelphia, circa 1840-50. The lid has a very old repair to one corner; hairline around circumference of base with four very old staples otherwise fine and very attractive.
Haig worked in both stoneware and earthenware (redware & yellow ware) but little has been identified. See Myers, Handcraft to Industry Philadelphia Ceramics in the First Half of the Nineteenth Century (1980) for in-depth discussion. The mold for this teapot is in the Mercer Museum, Doylestown, PA. (Height: 7.5-inches.)

Cornucopia Wall Pocket

Circa 1790-1805



As depicted, Prattware cornucopia wall pocket molded in high relief; Bacchus drinking from a jug clutches a bunch of grapes, a quiver of arrows beside him. The border of flared rim is ornamented with acanthus leaves; pierced at top for hanging. As expected, the usual burnt orange, blue, yellow and green glazing, excellent condition. (Height: 11-inches.)

Deep dish decorated with stenciled yellow birds in flight around edge and a stencil of a manganese horse on green turf, two blue lines around center and a single blue line around outer edge. Usual flaws found in tin glaze as well as three thumb size chips along edge. (Approximately 12.75-inches diameter x approximately 2.25-inches deep.)

With Seaweed Decoration



Mocha pitcher, dark pumpkin bands with seaweed decoration divided by dark brown bands and rouletted scale decoration; top and bottom have green glazed reeding; applied handle with molded terminal. Overall good, tight spider on bottom, tight ¼-inch crack on rim, small chips along base, interior stained. Height: 7.5-inches.
