New Hampshire Tall Clock, Jacob Jones, Pittsfield, NH, Outstanding Surface, Image 1

The Batchelder Farmhouse and the Jacob Jones house and shop were immediate neighbors. The second Batchelder Sale was held in 1988... some 50-years after the time capsule was closed. Attendees of the sale remember this tall clock, its buyer and subsequent owners including highly respected clock scholars.

The case retains its desirable original surface displaying a dry patina; applied bracket base is joined with undisturbed wooden pegs. The maker signed the interior of case as did the many clockmakers that serviced the timepiece. The case houses an 8-day movement with enameled dial... original hands.

Date: 1796 based on chalk inscription within interior.

Measurement: Height: 86.5"; width: 20.5"; depth: 12"

Material: Maple and white pine.

plinth and chimneys; backboard displays a shrinkage crack.
