Chippendale Chest-on-Chest, Screaming Tiger Maple, Great Patina, and Brasses

Rhode Island

Chippendale Chest-on-Chest, Screaming Tiger Maple, Great Patina, and Brasses, Image 1

A most wonderful small example featuring outstanding tiger graining, rich color, moldings, and original pine tree brasses. The applied molding [attached to base of upper case is a Rhode Island tradition] above a case of five thumb-molded graduated drawers; waist molding is applied to upper case. The lower case, also with five similarly molded graduated drawers is raised on bracket feet.

Date: Circa 1770

Measurement: Height: 69.25"; Top Case: 39" x 20.25"; Bottom Case: 40.5" x 21"

Material: Figured maple, Northeastern white pine

Condition: Excellent condition displays wonderfully. Trivial expected/accepted maintenance has been performed on the outside bottom edges of each drawer's secondary wood [side] adjusting for runner/guide wear.

A sliver of wood is missing from a single drawer bottom at rear. The minor loss was caused by drawer bottom shrinkage verses resistance against nailing's causing a crack and eventual loss.

Evidence of old pesting to the topside of one drawer's interior sides [secondary].
