Spreading circular turned handle attached by a peened tine; inside corners display ornamental file-work; square chuck. The bit locking device features a shaped finger piece.
During the period a brace and bit was by different names including a piercer, used to bore holes to drive pins, for some it was known as a brace, for others a wimble.
Wimble and bits were listed in period probates.
