Sheet iron and glass hanging lantern; two-tier pierced chimney; carrying ring affixed to
crimped domed cap…all above domed roof above pierced and punched frieze
surmounting the square glazed frame; hinged door opens to a single candle socket.
(Some deterioration to candle socket yet functional; displays well; h: 20.25”, 6.25” sq.)

Additional Information: One of the nicest examples of this type in great paint, surface,
and patina. Projecting top with elaborate vent, and canted edges pierced by posts which
are chamfered and ornamented with carved notches; posts mortise through conforming
base; wire bail handle. Single removeable candle socket/drip pan.

Displaying competent construction, successful proportions and verticality; the case with
three fixed lights and a single glazed door hung on original wire hinges…all centering
the single candle socket centered within the chamfered and projecting base. Mortice
and tenon joinery, very good condition with a tight and stable shrinkage crack to base
which was repaired with two square nails early in its working life.
(Height: 14”; base width: 7.75"; base depth: 7.25")

The back of the tinned sheet iron lamp features folding wire handles and what we assume is a belt hook. The lens is protected by a conforming cover mounted on a sliding door that opens to the interior housing removable burner, reservoir and wick pick. (4.75 by 1.75 by 1.5”)

As depicted, a brass double student lamp, burners marked "B/H DUPLEX" on thumbwheels, extinguishers have original pulls, cased shades with green exterior and white interior (one has chips on top of rim), not electrified. All sheet-iron construction...the pierced chimney with conical top above the case with bull's-eye glass lenses set within out-swept reflectors. The door that is hung on a wire and folded iron hinge opens to expose brackets that would receive colored lenses. The burner is missing, all else fine.
