The back boldly displays; 1838 - SOLD

The underside of scrolled brim is painted red and displays "HOSE 28 - PHILLA PA" with all else in black paint having gold and black lettering within red and gold banners; top with owners initials "J.H.". The slightly flaring stovepipe displays a portrait of Benjamin Franklin. There is some minor restoration, loses and imperfections commensurate with age and use. A silver medal bar and pendant attached to a white silk ribbon with "Hydrant Hose / to / GREGG HOSE / TRUMANSBURG / GENEVA, N.Y., / SEPT. 12, / 1889" printed in red letters. The medal bar, approximately 1 .5-inches long, has a pin back and is engraved "ORGANIZED 1880" on the obverse. The pendant, approximately 1 ¾-inches x 1 ¼-inches, is engraved "HYDRANT HOSE Co. 1. GENEVA N.Y." around the image of a fire hose cart, there are also cast images of a hydrant, crossed hoses, and a fireman's hat all surrounded by a wreath. The reverse of the pendant is signed "C. G. BRAXMAR / 36 CORTLANDT ST. / NEW YORK." The medal is tarnished but in otherwise fine condition, the ribbon is lightly soiled and toned, with fraying on the bottom.

As depicted, FOREMAN 3 surmounted by American flag; the back decorated with hand-tub; sides and rim with fancy painted scrolling with traces of thinning gilt. Within fancy banner at rear of flaring rim with brass band is the legend-NASHUA; underside of brim painted green. It appears that the helmet once has a leather crest. Overall excellent condition.

As depicted, American paint decorated bucket with leather handle; yellow lettering with black conforming silhouette against a red banner surmounted with red and green painted scrolling and other decorative devices...above 1794 date surrounded by fancy scrolling centering leaf decoration. The interior painted brick-red, rolled and stitched rim painted green; bucket is a wonderful yellow color. In very good condition with the exception of one of the swing handle mounting rings being detached from body tab and handle. We have a superb, and experienced leather restoration artist available. (Height: 12.5 inches.)
