Baskets are constructed of oak ribs and rims and have matching turned bottoms with
tapering edges and concentric circles; oak bentwood handles are shaped and pivot on
brass ears…good color. (Generally, very good, few rim-wrap imperfections and losses
to largest basket which can be easily and inexpensively restored by one of Nantucket’s
expert basket makers. (Large to small: h-9", dia-13"; h-8.5", dia-11.25";
h-7.5"; dia-9.25"; h-6.75"; dia-8.25"; h-6.25"; dia-7"; h-5.5"; dia-6.25")
Finely made, pushed-up bottom egg and/or berry gathering basket; a fine example of the basket makers craft. Double wrapped projecting “D” shaped rim; carved and notched ears, ash swing handle. Fine condition; height: 5.25”, add 4” for handle; diameter is approximately 7”.
Additional Information: Classic open/round traditional form with hinged bentwood
handle attached to carved ears joined to central stave ribs. The two piece rim
[interior/exterior] is laced together with rattan and affixed tiny square escutcheon pins;
closing the circumference gap is rattan laid flat; turned wood bottom; interior and
exterior bottom disks joined by wood peg.
The dusty interior is lined with green taffeta and features a nifty segmented trapunto thimble-cozy. This workbasket remains in excellent condition including rim and corners.

This small nineteenth century rectangular storage basket with shoulder remains in fine original condition and has a very good patina…thirteen of the wefts are stained; alternating red and green with three splits having traces of bluing. (Base 4.5 X 3.25 inches; basket rim 2.25 X 4 5/16 inches; the lid conforms to base size and sits down on shoulder; height 4-inches.)
Round top with double wrap tapering before swelling to the bulbous body then again tapering inward to the round base with pushed-up bottom. Scattered imperfections and missing handles...a wonderful form.
This small basket in wonderful surface remains in generally excellent condition with only the loss of one small piece of splint. (Height: 6 inches; width: 6.75 inches; depth: 3.75 inches)
