Height: 10 3/8-inches, diameter: 7-inches - SOLD

Hourglass, Monumental Proportions
Eighteenth century, entire view

A rarely encountered large example with clear blown glass bulbs blown in two sections; timer housed within walnut stand having turned ends joined by four baluster, elongated-ball, and ring turned columns. As expected, the ends display a few tight shrinkage fissures in; one with a very old, and clever wood fill, otherwise excellent condition.

661-2 - SOLD

Hourglass With Storage Tin
Nineteenth Century
Original Paint - SOLD

Hourglass With Storage Tin
Nineteenth Century, entire view

As depicted, five turned, incised and tapering spindles joining the round endplates that are made of pine. The one piece bulb is intact; wire was added insuring the integrity of the frame...probably because the owner was concerned with shrinking spindles. The sheet iron canister in great old paint appears to have been made for this sandglass. (Height: 7.25 inches; diameter: 3.75 inches.)

661-19 - SOLD

Sandglass Timer
Eighteenth Century - SOLD

Sandglass Timer
Eighteenth Century, entire view

This unusually small example with its bulb blown in two sections has been keeping time for hundreds of years, and is among the few to survive intact from this early period. This sand-glass is enclosed within a frame that remains in original surface; upper and lower plates appear to be oak with the carved half-round spindles being pine. (Height: 5 inches; diameter: 2.75 inches.)

661-18 - SOLD

Hourglass, Sand Timer
