Depicted is a possible variant of an annunciation, most unusual considering the apple and naked angel; scenes with man embracing woman; a framed face facing woman; engraved on the sides is "Verlaat" translating to "to abandon/leave" and "De Wereldt" or "the world." The iconography and verse is perhaps suggesting mortality and embracing physical pleasure before departing this world; open for interpretation.
(It appears that the base was re-soldered long ago, else fine; L: 6.5", H: 1.25", D: 1.75")

Heavy gauge, exceptional engraved detail including biblical scenes; copper sliding panel within raised lids reveals pierced and engraved scenes (see images); interior of lid features a pair of engraved hinged doors; at center is a chapter ring with Roman numerals; a dial hand (tulip Minute; crescent hour terminus) secures the doors in closed position. The doors open to reveal pierced and engraved brass washed in silver.
