Fancy Period Faux Graining - SOLD

Antique Bow Front Chest of Drawers
Grain Painted Hepplewhite Bowfront
New England, circa 1800
Fancy Period Faux Graining, entire view

At the height of the fancy period, shades of soft gray on cream paint trimmed in black
were applied over first red. This country-formal chest purportedly served the original
family in Maine for many generations, thence to a second owner for several decades
before being consigned to us. Slightly projecting top over conforming case containing
four drawers, the whole raised on tall slightly flaring French feet joining curvaceous
apron. Drawers were long-ago fitted with colorless Sandwich Glass pulls. We have
available two sets of period brass repousse pulls.
(Very good condition; displays well; height: 39"; width: 40.5"; depth: 21.75")

Probably Newburyport, Massachusetts, Circa 1765-1780, entire view 2

The chest of four graduated thumb-molded drawers; having a generously overhung top
with boldly molded edge; having an extremely rare brushing slide above the top drawer;
standing on a vigorously scrolled one-piece bracket base with extremely well-developed
center pendant; retaining mid-19th century painted surface. The overall proportions,
extreme drawer graduation and wonderful color create a highly appealing presence.
In extremely good condition; minor repairs to drawer lips; brasses replaced; top surface
of brushing slide was probably originally felted.
