Checkout the carving on verso of crest! 19th century red varnish over original red. The
applicator of red varnish got some on edges mirrored glass, we are confident that the

An extraordinary Chinese Chippendale style mirror, featuring striking elaborate carving
and three-dimensional design. The small shelf crest surmounting mirror facilitated the
display of a treasured object. Candle arms flank multiple, intricately cut, individual
pieces of mirror glass. (Fine condition: Length: 66"; height: 27"; depth: 6.75")

Material: Giltwood, reverse painting on glass tablet

Condition: Very good

Additional Information: The rectangular mirror plate within a molded slip beneath an
eglomise panel with a depiction of McDonough’s Victory flanked by paired rope twist
and carved columns, each headed by a floral rosette on projecting blocks. The stepped
molded cornice with twenty orb finials above a frieze decorated with swaging, applied
oval bosses and spherules. The whole gold gilt carved wood and gesso.

The scrolled crest surmounting molded gimbaled frame that is secured to stiles, featuring molded and
beaded edges, by brass wingnuts with backplates, the wingnuts may be Victorian replacements; stiles
joined by similarly molded and beaded rail; the whole raised on trestle base resting on padded
feet. The pierced magnifying glass frame traverses within a dado. Minor imperfections consistent
with age and use; one trestle with horizontal fissure, small veneer replacement at left proper
outside spur of crest…tip reduced. Imperfections seem extremely minor considering the rarity and
possible uniqueness of this object. Secondary wood is clear and appears to be white pine, none of
the typical telltale signs of life in England are present

A finely constructed example featuring shaped and molded mirror frame with carved and gilt border-liner; the glass pivots between rectangular molded and tapered posts with urn finials on a rectangular case featuring molded top edges and two square drawers flanking a rectangular drawer. The case is raised on applied ogee feet. Minor imperfections, an attractive piece ready for use.
Dimensions: 22" H, 14.25" W, 8.5" D.

The concave frame receives the continuous round molding quartered with carved, gesso and gilt ring and foliate decoration. The frame is surmounted with an eagle on rocky-mount having sea serpent and foliate decoration balancing and completing the upper crest while perpetuating the marine theme as sometimes encountered. All elements including glass and backboard are original; great old surface with nary an imperfection sans a small crack that was long ago glued. Height: 38.25-inches; width: 28.5-inches.
