Exceptional bulbous ovoid example of large proportion; the front displays a molded and
applied roundel; wreath border enclosing the “GR” cipher beneath a crown and
surmounting a winged angelic device…all centered within a crisply incised border of
interlocking oval devices. The central design flanked by flower stems and large scrolled
devices brushed in rich cobalt. Finely turned neck brushed in manganese, molded foot.
The pewter lid is engraved “H W” (over) “No. 12”; “1/2” is incised under the ribbed
handle. See Steinzeug, Kunstgewerbemuseum Der Stadt Koln, Koln 1986; page 345,

As depicted, a bulbous ovoid form on footed base; large proportion having a
manganese glazed finely reeded neck; the front displays a molded and applied roundel
enclosing “ GR” the cipher of either King George I or II…centered by incised looping
and scrolling patterns brushed in heavy cobalt. Under the ribbed handle is found ½ in
cobalt slip, molded foot. (Height: 10.5-inches.)

The Kurfursten krug was popular in heraldic Germany, generally made by Raeren potters in brown salt glazed form. This example, in very good condition, retains its original lid with makers mark and linen-fold mark; applied, incised, and impressed ornamentations featuring portraits of seven Kurfursten electors of the King of the Holy Roman Empire (Germany) within architectural arcade.
The half-length figures of the Kurfursten with their coat of arms are:

cobalt ground. The slender neck/spout features a lion’s mask; base of neck is tooled

Excellent original condition; .25" chip to rim at handle; hidden by lid, else fine.
The height is 11.25"
