Period U.S. Model 1795, Type 1 Musket, Springfield Armory, Buttplate Dated 1800
Original Flintlock, Standard Lock & Barrel Markings, Eagle Facing Left
FIRST STANDARIZED OFFICIAL MODEL MUSKET MADE FOR U.S.
The 1795 is perhaps the most elusive model, this being a very good example…
(.69-Caliber, overall length: 59” ; barrel: approximately 44.75” )

Locks were dated with year of manufacture commencing in 1804, this lock is not dated and is marked forward of hammer with eagle above “ US” in script; marked vertically at rear… SPRINGFIELD. Flat faced hammer with beveled edge, curled t top of spur; frizzen with curled toe bottom, frizzen spring with projecting teat; faceted and beveled detachable flashpan; trigger guard features long pointed tangs at top and bottom.
All metal smooth and clean displaying typical scattered speckling, shallow smooth pitting centering touchhole as expected; couple small vice marks near breech.
Wood displays original color and rich patina. Action is tight and smooth. We note a professional restoration (fill and color) to a very small section of wood loss at tail of lock
