Antique American Folk Art, ASAHEL LYNDE POWERS, Portrait of Young Man
Probably Vermont, Circa 1825
Oil on poplar board, original frame

The subject is positioned against a brown and mustard background and is seated in a paint decorated windsor chair; he wears a green coat with prominent brass buttons; underneath the outer coat is a mustard colored waistcoat with a simple collared shirt turned up under the chin. There is scattered minor retouch to abrasions; nothing significant. (Frame: 22 by 28.75"; view: 19.5 by 26.5")



Antique Yarn Sewn Rug, Lion and Palm, Ebenezer Ross Pattern
Circa 1890 to 1900SOLD

Depicted is a favorite pattern by or after Ebenezer Ross of Ohio that is often confused with examples by Frost. The work is mounted for hanging and measures 28.5 by 59.5”. See Kopp and Kopp, American Hooked and Sewn Rugs: Folk Art Underfoot (New York: 1985), pp. 80-81, fig. 118, 121-123.


Antique Chippendale Maple Tall Chest of Drawers, Original Brass hardware
New England, Likely Connecticut, circa 1770-1790
Maple, eastern white pine secondary wood, early color, surface and patina

Bold applied cornice molding over a case containing six long graduated drawers all with lip molded edge in fine condition. The case rests on molded base with straight scrolled bracket feet. All edges of original backboards are sharply chamfered and received by dado. Completely original remarkable condition with one small repair to left rear foot facing. (Height: 51”, width of case: 36.25”, depth of case: 17.25”)

A fine, large scale needlework picture featuring a shepherd and shepherdess tending their flock in a bucolic setting. (19” x 23.25” framed; mounted on what is likely a period board; minor loss/thinning to dark brown in spandrels, else fine and original.)

Round top with cleated underside supporting a pair of side-hung candle drawers retaining original turned pulls. Top is raised on turned standard; compressed ball turnings centering bulbous down-weighted baluster; sawn cabriole legs resting on pad feet. (20.25" x 26.25")

Square backs connect to padded armrests, ending in scrolls, above elegant curved and fluted supports; the comfortable over-upholstered seats and carved rails on tapered and fluted legs headed with rosettes. This pair of chairs is clean and ready for use.

A nice pair of sconces likely for public room…featuring oval dished reflectors displaying embossed and graduated radiating geometric segments compartmented within concentric rings emanating from the vacant oval center; curved arm with folded edges support the candle nozzles within outwardly flared fluted drip pans. (16.5" x 10")
