Musket, Colonial with Bayonet
Plymouth County Massachusetts
Pre Revolutionary War Period Retrofitted Lock
Curly Maple Stock, CLUB BUTT - SOLD

Musket, Colonial with Bayonet
Plymouth County Massachusetts, right facing & bayonet

A .78-caliber octagonal-to-round 54-inch barrel with bayonet lug on bottom of muzzle. The forend stock slightly reduced to accommodate lug; brass nose-band added when lug was installed. The furniture including 11 3/8-inch 1730s type trigger guard and front sight are brass. The original 3-screw brass sideplate set in shallow mortise; now 2-screws conforming to early lock with no marks which was retrofitted circa 1740. The stock is nicely grained and remains in very good condition; nice patina. The barrel is mostly plumb-brown and smooth; as expected, some even light pitting in breech-tang area. Lockplate is a smoky-gray color; even light pitting; frizzen refaced during period of use. All brass furniture has good dark patina. Bayonet not original.
