Remington’ s first handgun designed for metallic cartridge ammunition, patented by William H.
Elliot, one of Remington’ s most prolific inventors. Elliot patented this design and contracted
Remington to manufacture the handgun for his own company Elliot Arms. Remington liked
the patent so much that they purchased the patents and became the owner of the
design. This example, serial number 33, was almost assuredly made for Elliot Arms.
The barrel group measures 3 3/16” in length, ring type trigger, double action with
concealed hammer; loads through port in frame at breech; the markings and mechanics are
excellent with strong traces of blue remaining in protected areas. We note that there is one
small chip at the top of the left grip.
Markings: MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTON’ S, ILLION, NY/
ELLIOT’ S PATENTS/MAY 29, 1860-OCT,1,1861.
