Hunting Sword & Scabbard, Silver Mounted, Rare Double Fuller, Eagle & Face Masks Anonymous…English or Continental, Circa 1780

A Fine and interesting high-quality sword, the hilt features a reeded tapering horn grip; the mask pommel surmounted with scrolled shells…guard and quillon also decorated. The Ricasso features a most interesting eagle mask centered by fine hair like engraving on both sides. The guard plate displays a terrific mask against a stippled ground surrounded by shell and scroll border. The 22.5-inch double fullered blade is bright with thin browning; no nicks. The black leather embossed scabbard is fine and supple, perfect stitching; silver throat with hanging ring displays fine rocker engraving…a festooned oval device surmounted with bowknot; drag features two-line engraving and scalloping with conforming engraving, tip is capped. Overall length is 28.5-inches. Excellent condition.
