Additional Information: Relief carved…militiaman surrounded by flowers within
decorative border; impressed "J.Y. WATKINS N.Y." on one corner. James Y. Watkins
was a successor of the most famous New York mold maker John Conger. Conger
created the finest molds used in America.

Material: European Maple, sycamore

Condition: Typical scatters (old) pesting, wear to corner

Additional Information: Traditional Danish examples are painted in strong contrasting
colors, they are constrained by reserved exuberance; handles are generally flat sided;
The figures are folky, almost cartoonish; the board tapers. This example features a pair
of stylized potted plants with birds atop and is scratch-carved “ANNO 1790 – AKSHD”
within molded border. There is a vacant very shallow rectangle in the board under
horses’ head.

Condition: Excellent original condition

Additional Information: A small cooper made rundlet size barrel, the staves secured
by four wrought iron hoops. Raised walnut bung plate secured by four pewter riveted.
Retains what appears to be the original bung plug. Surface is wonderful…original soft
blue/green paint now highly oxidized; displays blue nuances. A nearly identical firkin
[unit of size] is shown on page 57, plate 10 of The Book of Wine Antiques by Robin
Butler and Gillian Walkling.

Material: Maple, traces of thinning white paint

Condition: Fine

Additional Information: Vase and ring-turned handle continuing to rectangular print
having canted shoulders. The word “FANCY’ stands proud allowing for impressing the
word…we believe, into large block of butter. The face shows evidence of butterfat. After
use, butter prints were boiled thus the paint on handle and block has thinned; the
printing face was never painted. Fancy butters and premium butters made in small
batched were/are produced.

Measurement: Height: 7.75"; base diameter: 4.25"

Condition: Some thinning and soiling, and wax drippings all working
in concert to produce a great patina.

Additional Information: Beautiful robustly turned wooden candlestick
of baluster form. The candle socket is lined with sheet iron which
is probably why it survived.
